Renew and Reconnect with the Northtown Library

Date: Sep 6th, 2014

Get a fresh look at the newly remodeled Northtown Library at a grand reopening celebration Saturday, September 6, 2014, from 9:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with activities for all ages.  Northtown Library is located at 707 County Road 10 in Blaine, MN.

“The reviews are in and the new look and layout of Northtown Library is a big hit,” said Anoka County Commissioner and Library Board Liaison Julie Braastad. “More than just a space for books, it’s about growing, learning and exploring our world’s possibilities whether it be applying for a new job or reading a work of fiction.”

The day will feature an appearance by Minnesota author Debra Frasier at the Alphabet Fair, based on Frasier’s book A Fabulous Fair Alphabet, Civil War re-enactors from the 2nd Minnesota Battery of Light Artillery Civil War will set up camp, and local musicians will also perform.

“For almost fifty years Northtown Library has provided Anoka residents with the tools they need for school success and lifelong learning,” said ACL Board President Bob Thistle.  “Today we celebrate a newly renovated library, one that continues those traditions, designed to support and cultivate the curiosity of all learners.”

Based on input and recommendations from the community, the renovated space features an open and inviting design, with more natural light and an updated color palette.  Features of the renovated library include a larger children’s room, a new teen room, more public computers, more seating, study areas and conference rooms, lower bookshelves and fully accessible restrooms.

The total budget for the project was $1,050,000.00, and the project will be completed under budget.  Funds were primarily from Anoka County Library’s building fund with $150,000.00 from a state library grant through the Minnesota Department of Education.
