Northtown Library Improvements and Renovations

Date: Mar 17th, 2014

Northtown Library will be closed for improvements and renovations beginning March 17 until late June 2014. As Anoka County Library prepares for the future needs of residents, library buildings are being adapted for greater flexibility. When Northtown Library reopens, it will offer a drive-through book return, a larger children’s room, a teen room, more computers, more conference rooms, accessible restrooms, and a more flexible floor plan. The project is funded in part by a Public Library Accessibility and Improvement Grant through the Minnesota Department of Education.

“Today’s libraries are about communication, not only via the written word, but about computer exchanges, ideas, information, and inspiration,” said Anoka County Commissioner and Library Board Liaison Julie Braastad. “This renovation begins a new chapter in our service to citizens, reflecting how we communicate and serve our customers today and long into the future.”

During the closed period, all seven of the other Anoka County libraries will remain open and continue to offer a full range of storytimes and programs. Additionally, Rum River Library will be open Sundays from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. starting Sunday, March 23rd through Sunday, May 18th.

Library Board Chair, Bob Thistle said, “The remodeled library will be more flexible and adaptive to future needs. There will be more space for collaboration and innovative library programs and services. This is an example of reusing existing space to meet current and future demands.”
